Six police officers killed in shootout in Mexico with armed group

Mexico, SANA- Six police officers were killed and four others wounded Sunday in the northern Mexico border state of Nuevo Leon after they were ambushed by a drug gang.

The AFP quoted the provincial authorities as saying that clashes took place last night when armed unknown persons, who were in about ten armored trucks, targeted police officers, killing six policemen and wounding four others.

Mexico is witnessing a cycle of violence that has resulted in the deaths of at least 340,000 people, most of them in operations attributed to organized crime circles, since 2006.
