Ambassador Sabbagh: politicizing the chemical file in Syria affirms selectivity and double standards policy

New York, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that politicizing the chemical file in Syria by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the Security Council Committee 1540 proves selectivity and double standards policy.

Syria has categorically condemned the use of those weapons at any time, any place and under any circumstances, and for this reason it categorically rejects the false accusations leveled by some countries, especially the United States, which It supports terrorist organizations that use chemical weapons in Syria, Sabbagh said In a statement during a Security Council session on the “chemical file.”

Sabbagh indicated that Syria has been keen since its joining to the chemical weapons convention to fully cooperate with the OPCW.

Ambassador Sabbagh expressed Syria’s astonishment at the insistence of the Technical Secretariat of the Organization and the Security Council Committee 1540 to ignore the information provided regarding the possession and use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups in Syria, or their fabrication of incidents to accuse the Syrian Arab Army, which confirms the selectivity and double standards policy and reflects the state of politicization that controls this file.
