Lavrov: Meetings of Astana and Geneva on crisis in Syria were useful and achieved significant progress

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the meetings of Astana and Geneva were very useful as they achieved a significant progress, expressing hope that they will help in consolidating the cessation of hostilities agreement and moving forward the political solution to the crisis in Syria.

In a joint press conference with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel, Lavrov said “accelerating Geneva process is in our interest.”

Lavrov indicated that the political settlement according to the resolution no. /2254/ entails activating the combat of terrorism and increasing the coordination among all the parties to participate in combating the ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations.

For his part, Minister Gabriel considered that Astana meetings have contributed to achieving a progress in Geneva talks and in the cessation of hostilities agreement.
