Winners of Syrian Science Olympiad for 2019-2020 season honored

Damascus, SANA- Under the patronage of Mrs. Asma al-Assad, the winners of the Syrian Science Olympiad for the 2019-2020 season were honored in a ceremony held at the Conferences Palace in Damascus.

The ceremony, organized by the Distinction and Creativity Agency, honored the top 15 students in mathematics, physics, chemistry, informatics, and biology.

Muaz Bahlawan from Aleppo won first place in mathematics, with Miriam Rahmoun from Damascus winning second place and Haidara Khaddour from Tartous winning third place.

In physics, Ruaa al-Rifai from Damascus Countryside won first place, with Hatem Ibrahim from Damascus Countryside and Ammar Rajab from Lattakia coming in second and third respectively.

In chemistry, Mohammad Abdulrahman Sayyed Omar from Damascus won first place, Sleiman Salman from Homs came in second, and Salman al-Darwish from Homs came in third.

In informatics, Bishr Zeibaq from Aleppo came in first, Mohammad Noureddin Lababidi from Aleppo came in second, and both Hussein Busabit from Damascus and Mohammad Mufid Muhmalat from Aleppo shared the third place as they got the same marks.

In biology, Bassel al-Kanjo from Aleppo came in first, Aya Ibrahim from Lattakia came in second, and Mohammad Alaa Kebrit from Homs came in third.

The top 15 students in each subject received laurels and prizes, while the top 3 students in each subject received gold, silver, and bronze medals.

In a speech at the ceremony, Chairperson of the Distinction and Creativity Agency Hala al-Daqqaq said the Agency’s future plans seek to develop training methodology for students, as well as participating in international competitions in new fields such as nanotechnology and mathematical modeling next year.

The ceremony included screening of videos of the Olympiad finals and the vision for developing the Syrian Science Olympiad, in addition to musical performances.
