Reception ceremony on anniversary of Independence Day of India

Damascus,SANA-The Indian Embassy in Damascus held a reception on Sunday evening on the occasion of 75th anniversary of independence of India at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

Mr. Mahender Singh Kanyal, Indian Ambassador in Damascus, stressed that relations between India and Syria are old since the declaration of independence of the two countries, and during this period there was cooperation in a number of fields, pointing out that during the upcoming period more agreements and memos of understanding will be signed to boost bilateral relations .

Mr. Kanyal affirmed his country’s commitment to expand its technical, humanitarian and development support to Syria and its continuation in building capacities and skills for Syrian human resources, referring to the need for the two friendly countries to explore opportunities for comprehensive economic growth in the interest of their peoples.

For his part, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari , referred to the civilized connection between Syria and India and their struggle against colonialism, pointing to the cooperation and coordination between the two countries at international forums .

In a statement to reporters, al-Jaafari stressed that Syria has a solid historic relation with India , indicating that India is a large country that has achieved a lot of scientific progress, which made it immune to Western pressures, as it is not subject to external dictates as the Indian people were able to defeat the most powerful colonialism in the world, represented by the British colonialism.
