Restoration of 13 schools in Nabek to receive students at beginning of school year – video

Damascus Countryside, SANA- Active restoration and rehabilitation operations have been taking place at 13 schools that were damaged by terrorism in Nabek area in Damascus countryside, to be ready at the beginning of the new school year to receive more than 6,000 students.

SANA kept pace with the restoration work carried out by the Damascus Countryside Education Directorate in cooperation with the local community, where the supervisor of the educational complex in Nabek Nouf Arab said that the restoration work is in its final stages and it included 13 schools out of 25 in the area and began about a month and a half ago.

The restoration works also included the repair of structural damage to the walls, filling gaps in the building, installing doors and windows, painting, rehabilitating the fence and external walls of schools, and rehabilitating toilets to be ready at the beginning of the school year, Nouf added.

School renovation work was launched as part of an initiative for the local community entitled “Together, Nabek more Beautiful,” and next year, during the summer vacation, it will include the rest of the area’s schools, according to Eng. Nada Barakat, Supervisor of Nabek area in the School Buildings Department of the Damascus Countryside Education Directorate.

Barakat noted that during the years of the terrorist war on Syria, some schools were vandalized and sustained significant damage, prompting the Education Directorate to develop a regular plan to repair these damages with the participation of the local community.

Among the supervisors of the rehabilitation and restoration of schools, Eng. Majd Smid who said that some schools suffered significant damage to the infrastructure as a result of terrorist acts, and work was completed step by step to restore them completely with the fence and the facade.

It established the “Together Nabek more Beautiful” initiative with a gathering of more than 200 men from Nabek area, and it aims, according to engineer Nimir Khalaf, one of its participants, to help Damascus Countryside Education Directorate during its work on renovating schools in order to provide a suitable environment for students to do their best and excel.

Principal of the Martyr Issam Nasrallah School for Boys, Ibtisam Bahbouh, pointed out that the school was built since 1950 and has been vandalized and damaged by terrorism, which necessitated to rehabilitate it.

Bahbouh added that the restoration work included the school roof, lighting, electrical installations, wall painting, sanitary installations and courtyards.
