Syria fulfilled its obligations under Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Ambassador Khaddour says

Vienna, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Hassan Khaddour reiterated that Syria has fulfilled its legal obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty despite all the difficult circumstances it went through as a result of aggressive policies and pressures.

Khaddour’s remarks came during the Board of Governors session held by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna for the month of March 2022.

Khaddour said that the track of disruption, adopted by certain known sides about Syria, aims to practice more pressure on Syria that has been able to meet all needed international obligations according the Comprehensive safeguards agreement despite difficult conditions the country went through because of the hostile and failed policies of these sides.

The Ambassador welcomed the launch of a dialogue between the concerned parties with ensuring the safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, looking forward to reaching constructive solutions that take into account the legitimate security concerns of the Russian Federation and stop the flow of weapons and missiles to Ukraine.

Khaddour also welcomed the continuation of the serious discussion between the IAEA and Iran, which constitutes a qualitative step for resolving issues as this step would not have been achieved without the real and sincere will of Iran.

Khaddour said that the remaining of Israeli occupation entity, with its possession of nuclear capabilities, outside the framework of the Comprehensive safeguards agreement poses grave threat to the non-proliferation system.

Khaddour pointed out that the intention of United States and the United Kingdom to supply Australia with nuclear-powered submarines under AUKUS partnership entails a great risk and raises additional tension in the Asia-Pacific region and international security.

He stressed the importance of solving regional and international problems through diplomacy and dialogue, and supporting efforts to maintain security and stability in any point of tension in the world.
