Sousan, Vershinin discuss Syrian-Russian relations, regional and international developments

Damascus, SANA- Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Ayman Sousan, expressed appreciation for Russia’s support to Syria in all domains, those political, military and economic.

Sousan’s remarks came during a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin on Tuesday, reiterating Syria’s support to Russia against the NATO’s aggression and hegemony.

The two sides held talks on Syrian-Russian relations as part of the regular political consultations between the two friendly countries.

Talks also dealt with latest developments on the regional and international arenas as viewpoints of the two sides were identical on the issues discussed.

Vershinin, in turn, expressed his country’s continued support for Syria to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying that events in Syria and Russia are part of those the world is witnessing in terms of U.S. and Western countries’ attempts to fuel conflicts among countries to dominate the world and plunder its resources.

The two sides condemned the West’s politicization of humanitarian assistance and impeding the return of Syrian refugees to their lands, stressing the need to complement the Syrian state’s efforts to address the impacts of the unjust war on early recovery projects.

“Eventually, Idlib will return to the sovereignty of the Syrian state and its people will resume their normal life away from the influence of terrorist groups,” Sousan said in response to media questions on the situation in Idlib and northern Syria.

“First of all, Turkey should acknowledge to completely withdraw its troops from the Syrian territories on a specific schedule and start this actual withdrawal, then we can talk about a “road map” there,” he added.

For his part, Vershinin attached great significance to the meetings held with President al-Assad and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fayssal Mikdad on Monday.

The Russian diplomat noted the importance of Syrian-Russian coordination at international forums in New York and Geneva, in addition to following up issues agreed during the visit of President al-Assad to Moscow last March, hailing the outcomes of these meetings.
