Abdollahian calls for supporting Syria to combat terrorism

Tehran, SANA- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need to support Syria in the war against terrorism, adding that the situation in Syria has become complicated due to US interventions, and dozens of terrorist groups are still threatening the security of Syria under the impact of these interventions.

Abdollahian, during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen in Geneva, stressed that Islamic Republic of Iran continues to support the mission of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to help solve problems in Syria.

Abdollahian described the economic sanctions imposed by the United States on Syria as a measure against the Syrian people and called for exerting efforts by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Aid Affairs at the United Nations to lift the economic sanctions on Syria.

In turn, Pedersen breifed Abdollahian on his efforts and plans to help resolve the crisis in Syria and expressed his views on the continuation of the political process and the Constitutional Committee.

Pederson indicated that he is seeking to reduce tensions in Syria and expressed his hope that the current developments in Palestine will not have a negative impact on the situation in Syrian.
