Minister Sabbagh discusses with several counterparts bilateral cooperation and Israeli escalation, New York

New York-SANA- During the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bassam Sabbagh held meetings with a number of his counterparts.

Sabbagh discussed with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest. They touched upon the dangerous developments facing our Arab region as a result of the unprecedented Israeli escalation in Palestine and Lebanon, and its repeated attacks on Syrian territories. The two sides stressed the need to coordinate joint Arab action.

In addition to that, Minister Sabbagh reviewed with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf the development witnessed in bilateral relations, and the importance of activating the work of joint committees. The two ministers affirmed their commitment to continue coordination and consultation on all issues of common interest, especially regarding the current challenges facing the Arab region.

Sabbagh voiced Syria’s appreciation for the important role played by Algeria, by virtue of its current membership in the Security Council, in defending Arab issues, with the Algerian minister stressing the great interest his country attaches to promoting bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in the economic one.

The Syrian Foreign Minister met also with Ugandan Foreign Minister Jeje Abubakar, whose country chaired the Non-Aligned Movement Summit and the Group of 77 and China, where the importance of the role played by the two groups in defending the issues of developing countries and protecting their interests was emphasized, along with their unity in achieving the goals they aspire to.

The two ministers   attached great importance to developing and strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.
