Victory at Jisr al-Shughour hospital stresses the army’s will is unbreakable

Hama, SANA – Colonel Mahmoud Sabha, the commander of a group of Syrian Arab Army soldiers who were in Jisr al-Shughour Hospital, recounted the details of the operation that led to breaking the terrorists’ 28-day siege of the hospital in an interview with SANA.

The terrorists, he said, left no stone unturned in their attempts to reach and destroy the hospital’s building with the soldiers inside it.

Col. Sabha said these attempts included car bombs sometimes and direct assaults with large numbers of “frenzied terrorists” in other times, “but all to no avail as the heroes in the hospital stood fast and fought tooth and nail to defend it.”

When the terrorists failed to break into the hospital, the Colonel said, they intended to dig tunnels beneath it so as to blow it up completely.

“That was when we had to try to leave the hospital in fear for the lives of the heroes who stood firm for about a month,” Col. Sabha told SANA.

He explained that they carried out a combat operation face to face with the terrorists in open areas, during which “we fought ferocious battles over 14 hours.”

The hospital’s defenders, he added, were rushing fearlessly everywhere necessary showing extreme courage and risking their lives in the confrontation against the terrorists.

SANA also spoke to Bashir Wannous, one of the soldiers who defended Jisr al-Shughour hospital, who said “The sacrifices we made were part of what we had been educated on at our military institution.”

“The terrorists are too weak for a direct confrontation, and that’s why they resorted to tricks,” he added.

“Our departure from the hospital is a beginning for another stage with our comrades in arms,” Wannous said confidently.

With this victory in Jisr al-Shughour coinciding with the first anniversary of breaking the terrorists’ long siege of Aleppo Central Prison, the Syrian army sends a message to the terrorists and their regional and international backers that the will of the Syrians and their army cannot be broken no matter what, and that more victories will follow until the homeland is cleansed of all the terrorists to the last one.
