Expanded meeting on citrus marketing held in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA – Means of facilitating export transactions, particularly agricultural products, and citrus marketing were the focus of the expanded meeting held Saturday in Lattakia Governorate building in the presence of Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Adib Mayaleh, Transport Minister, Ali Hammoud, and Assistant Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Emad al-Aseel.

Several procedures and proposals on marketing citrus in a way that guarantees the reputation of local products in foreign markets were presented during the meeting.

Minister Mayaleh stressed the importance of enhancing export performance at all stages from harvesting, processing to end market destination, taking into account the targeted markets and their requirements.

The ministers inspected how wheat is discharged at the berth, the loading and export processes at the Container Terminal as well as packaging centers.
Executive officer Nou’man Sari of the Container Terminal explained the work mechanism of the company which is a successful example of public-private cooperation in establishing joint ventures.

In a statement to journalists, Mayaleh highlighted the gradual growth of exports and imports, noting that the active movement in Lattakia Port and the Container Terminal contributes to enhancing the national economy.

For his part, Minister Hammoud indicated to the government’s efforts to improve the infrastructure of Lattakia Port through the rehabilitation of the breakwater and the wall, noting to the handling of several obstacles which hindered citrus exports and increasing the number of packaging centers to reach 56.

In turn, Lattakia Governor Ibrahim Khodr al-Salem stressed the governorate’s keenness on providing necessary requirements to enhance agricultural and industrial production, exports and imports, and grain marketing.
