Artist Fida Mansour is climbing the ladder to fame with his latest mural

Damascus, SANA – Muralist, Fida Mansour, is known for painting his most recent piece, the 50 m long and 2 m high mural featuring the historic Syrian-Chinese relations for thousands of years.

Interviewed by SANA Cultural Bulletin, Mansour said that it took him 20 days to finish this masterpiece after gaining the approval of the Chinese Embassy, adding that “It depicts the Silk Road that bound the two friendly countries through the trade convoys of the ancient Palmyra civilization, so I started with the Great Wall of China and ended with the Bride of the Desert.”

Mansour recalled his beginnings and previous attempts on the walls of schools and Kindergartens, indicating that he uses oil paint of different colors and other high-quality materials to resist the effect of aging oil paint due to the fluctuation in outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.

He stressed the importance of taking art to people in streets which help reach a much broader audience than traditional artwork and galleries normally allow, not to mention the aesthetic value it added.

Artist Mansour underlined the development of plastic art in Syria despite the current crisis, adding that artists’ duty is to reflect reality and contribute to the improvement of their society.

On his future projects, Mansour said that he is preparing for a solo art exhibition, in addition to receiving several invitations by different institutions and embassies to repeat this new experience.

Fida Mansour was born in Jableh, Lattakia. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus in 1999 and pursued higher studies until 2001. He works as a teacher at the Institute of Artistic, Plastic and Applied Education in Damascus since 2004.
