Damascus, SANA – The commission for combating money laundering and terrorism funding (CMLTF) at the Central Bank of Syria (CBS), in cooperation with the CMLTF department at the Criminal Security Directorate, uncovered the base of a company that practices unlicensed and illegal currency exchange and sending and receiving money transfers.

In a statement on Saturday, the commission said the company is directly connected to a licensed currency exchange office, adding that the base contained an extensive electronic communications system, servers, documents, and official seals that confirm the office’s involvement.

The statement said the base also contained several metal safes, receptions desks, and funds exceeding SYP 500 million, adding that investigations are underway in order to bring everyone involved to justice and hold them accountable.
