Tartous, SANA –The Fortress of Solomon is an ancient Aramaic temple consisting of a fence build of huge stones and a temple in the middle. It had an Aramaic name after an Aramaic god, according to the discovered Greek writings.

Its current name “Fortress of Solomon” was given by the local inhabitants who were moved by the miraculous nature of the building of the temple due to the heavy weight of the stones which reach more than 70 tons, and believed that the stones could only be carriedby the jinn of Prophet Solomon.

The fortress is located 50 km east of Tartous city, and consists of three main parts: the big sanctuary, the worship chamber and the small sanctuary.
