Notable expansion of wheat cultivated areas this season

Damascus, SANA – With the wave of rainfall still sweeping the country, wheat cultivated areas have notably expanded with roughly 152 thousand hectares planted with the strategic crop across the country.

Wheat cultivation plans for this season are set to cover around 1.8 million hectares, according to Head of the Agricultural Production at the Ministry of Agriculture Abdul-Muein al-Qadamani.

He noted that the areas planted with irrigated wheat are 36,300 hectares out of the planned 951,000 hectares. Those included 28,500 hectares in the northeastern province of Hasaka and 4,000 hectares in the northern province of Aleppo.

115,400 hectares are the area cultivated with rain-fed wheat so far this season out of the planned 835,000. 81,000 hectares of those are in Hasaka, while 29,000 hectares are in Aleppo.
