Armenia on its national day… historic friendship with Syria, close stances on different issues

Damascus, SANA- The Syrian-Arminian relations have been relations of amity and friendship that have reflected the deep-rooted history binding the two countries and they have been the outcome of their close stances on different humanitarian, cultural and political issues in a way that serves the interests of the two countries’ peoples and preserves the principles of maintaining international peace and security and respecting the sovereignty of states and the noninterference in their internal affairs.

On September 21st, Armenia celebrates the 29th anniversary of its National Day in a time when history records the Syrians’ standing by the Armenian people who have been displaced by the ottoman occupation from their areas in Cilicia, Trabzon and other areas as they have become one of the components of the Syrian people.

On February 13th this year, the People’s Assembly adopted a decision that condemns and recognizes the genocide committed by the Ottoman state against the Armenian people in the beginning of the twentieth century.

Armenia has supported Syria and its people in their war against terrorism and its embassy continued its work throughout the years of the crisis.

With the aim of enhancing cooperation, the two countries have formed economic committees and they set the legal rules of their work as the two countries have signed about 60 agreements in the domains of trade, culture and education including an executive educational program that related to the higher education, according to which they exchange batches of students whether for studying Arabic in Syria or for continuing postgraduate studies at the Armenian universities.

The Republic of Armenia is located in the Caucasus region at the confluence of the continents of Asia and Europe. It covers an area of 29.743 square kilometers. It is part of historical Armenia, which has an area of more than 300 thousand km.
