Education minister: Educational sector in Syria holding up well against grim odds

Sharm El-Sheikh, SANA- Education Minister Dr. Hazwan al-Waz said Syria has come up agaisnt major challenges over the past years which had negative impacts on all public sectors, particularly the education.

The minister pointed out that terrorist organizations tried to stop the educational process through shelling schools, targeting students and teachers and preventing exams.

This came in a speech the minister delivered at the conclusion of the Regional Conference for the Arab States on Education Post-2015 held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

In an appraisal of the losses that the educational sector have suffered due to terrorist attacks, the minister said 5,000 schools have come out of service and 850 teaching staff and students have been killed.

He noted that the ministry is bent on continuing the educational process in Syria against tough odds, indicating that Syria is focusing on the quality of teaching and have been in step with scientific and educational developments.

The three-day Regional Conference for the Arab States on Education Post-2015 discussed issues and future prospects related to education, the current challenges and the key priorities in the future educational process, thrashing out ways to further benefit from the accomplished teaching goals in the Arab region.
