Magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes off Tonga Islands, Pacific Ocean

Nuku’alofa, SANA- An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck the Tonga Islands in the South Pacific Ocean.

The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred 108 km from the Hihifo area at a depth of 36 km under the sea, as tsunami warnings were issued for areas facing the islands.

Last month, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the archipelago last month, causing significant material damage as a result of the tsunami.
