Trials for selecting Syrian Science Olympiad national teams concluded, results announced

Damascus, SANA – The National Commission for the Syrian Science Olympiad announced the results of the trials for picking the Syrian Science Olympiad teams which will be representing Syria in international competitions in math, physics, chemistry, biology, and IT.

Olympiad 2

The trials had commenced earlier on Saturday at the Plastic Arts and Handicrafts Institute in Damascus, with the participation of 101 students from all provinces, 23 of which qualified for the national teams.

The Commission presented the winners with awards at the announcement ceremony.

The winners in IT are Alexander Abbas from Tartous, Bashir Masri from Aleppo, Wujoud Zarzour from Damascus, and Mohammad Dweik from Aleppo.

The winters in biology are Aleck Sarian from Aleppo, Burhan al-Wakil from Idleb, Bushra al-Jendi from Homs, and Abdullah Banan from Aleppo.

In math, the winners are Mohammad Hasanin Hnaino from Aleppo, Sami Rahmeh from Aleppo, Mustafa Khalil from Hama, Yazan al-Nessr from Damascus, Ghaith al-Zuhaili from Damascus, and Mohammad Jamil Mohammad from Tartous.

In chemistry, the winners are Salim Hanna from Homs, Zein Nawfal from Lattakia, Tammam Mustafa from Tartous, and Rudy Khaled Nasro from Aleppo.

The physics winners are Tony Makdessi from Homs, Jaafar Baddour from Lattakia, Mohammad Monzer from Sweida, Ahmad Arab from Hasaka, and Adnan Saoud from Homs.

Olympiad 3

The winners will represent Syrian in the Science Olympiad events which include the math Olympiad in Thailand, the physics Olympiad in India, the chemistry Olympiad in Azerbaijan, the biology Olympiad in Denmark, and IT Olympiad in Kazakhstan.

Earlier, Education Minister Hazwan al-Waz and Higher Education Minister Mohammad Amer Mardini inspected the trials, underlining the achievements of Syrian teams in international Scientific Olympiad events in the past and stressing the need to maintain that momentum and improve it further.

The activities of the Syrian Science Olympiad for 2014-2015 were launched at the end of October 2014, with the participation of more than 42,000 students from across the country. The winners of the nationals were announced on January, and the candidates for the national teams were selected were selected from them.
