Parliament calls for international efforts against terrorism to avoid more genocides like the Armenian one

Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly called on the international community and people all over the world to get united in the face of the terrorism hitting the Middle East region to avoid more genocides.

During a parliament session on Tuesday, Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham and the MPs commemorated the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, that was perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks against the Armenian people on the 24th of April, 1915.

The Ottoman massacres then claimed the lives of over one and a half million Armenians and displaced more than one and a half million others.

While expressing Syria’ absolute solidarity with the Armenian people at home and abroad, al-Laham lashed out at the current Turkish government led by Justice and Development Party (AKP) for continuing its support to the armed terrorist organizations fighting in Syria.

Terrorists from all corners of the world have been provided all forms of support by Ankara, which has harbored, trained, armed and funded them and facilitated their passage into the Syrian territory to commit atrocities against the Syrian people since the outset of the crisis in the country in 2011.

A most telling evidence of the Turkish government’s involvement in the terrorism in Syria and in continuing its attack against the Armenians was quite clear in a military aggression its forces launched in March 2014, firing tank and artillery shells on the Armenian-populated border town of Kassab in Lattakia to secure coverage for the armed terrorist groups to enter into Syria from the Turkish land.

Speaker al-Laham called for unified international efforts to stand in the face of “the killers of life and butchers, and to confront the terrorism hitting the Middle East in order to avoid other genocides.”
