A five-day anti-polio vaccination campaign starts all over the country

Damascus, SANA – A new Anti-polio vaccination campaign, for the children under five, started on Sunday in all provinces.

The campaign, which lasts for five days, will cover all cities and health and makeshift centers.

Health Minister Nizar Yazigi told SANA that the Ministry has taken all required procedures to make the campaign a success, where it distributed three million doses of the vaccine.

He added that 9413 health workers and 865 vehicles accompanying the mobile teams are engaged in the campaign.

The Minister called upon parents to take their children to health centers or a nearby mobile team to take the missed vaccines without the need for showing their identities if they are not available due to the current situation.

Yazigi renewed that the vaccination is free and with high quality that is adopted by World Health Organization.

ppThe Minister pointed out that the results of the recent campaign was tremendous, recording 102.2%, which is an unprecedented percentage since the launch of the campaigns following the detection of the virus in October, 2013. saying “No new cases of polio have been detected in Syria since 21st of January of 2014,” the Ministry clarified.

The latest national polio vaccination campaign, which was conducted between February 15 -19, showed a roaring success, reaching 2,988,000 children under five.

In Homs, the campaign targets 190,000 children with the participation of volunteers from the Revolutionary Youth Union and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) who will help in delivering the vaccines to hard-to-reach areas.

In Hama, the campaign is targeting around 308,000 children from the province and the arrivals from other provinces and children residing in temporary centers, with 150 health centers, 842 health workers in health centers, mobile teams and 430 volunteers from community organizations and charity associations.
Around 120 mobile teams had been prepared to reach far-off areas.

In the southern province of Sweida, the campaign targets 52,400 children, including displaced children, through 90 health centers and the polyclinics building in Sweida city.

In Tartous, around 130,000 children are targeted by this campaign through 130 health centers, 23 medical points and 9 health points in the temporary residential centers in addition to the participants of 400 persons, 18 mobile teams and 30 cars for transporting medical teams to health centers.

In Quneitra, the campaign targets 49,500 children distributed on three health centers in Quneitra, Damascus and Damascus Countryside with the participation of 200 medical staff, including 7 mobile teams.

Meanwhile, in Daraa the campaign is targeting 125,260 children through 480 health workers who are distributed on 66 health centers in addition to mobile teams.

Around 160,000 vaccine doses had been distributed to health areas in the province and the health workers will be vaccinating children in temporary residential centers in Zayzon and far-off towns.

In Hasaka, around 247,000 children are targeted in the campaign through 60 health centers and 50 mobile teams in the province.

In Aleppo, 73 mobile teams will be giving vaccines to 244,712 children at medical points, health centers and temporary residential centers.

In Deir Ezzor, around 290,000 children are targeted by this campaign through 74 health centers, medical points and mobile teams with the participation of 1000 health workers.

In Lattakia, the coastal province, around 201,000 girls and boys are targeted by this campaign.
