Security Council adopts resolution calling for complete ceasefire in Gaza

New York, SANA- The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution submitted by the United States calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The resolution was adopted by 14 votes in favor and one abstention.

According to the resolution, phase one includes an immediate, complete and total ceasefire, the release of Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from residential areas, the return of Palestinians to their homes in all areas of the Gaza Strip, and the widespread distribution of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip.

The phase two of the resolution includes a permanent end of aggression on Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of all hostages in the strip and a complete withdrawal of the occupation forces from Gaza, while the phase three includes a plan to rebuild the Strip.

The resolution rejects any attempt to make a demographic or territorial change in the Strip, including any measures to reduce the area of its lands.

Algeria’s Permanent representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama stressed that his country cannot afford to remain silent in the face of collective punishment against the Palestinian people, so that it supports the resolution, believing that it could represent a step towards an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
