Syria and ICRC discuss carrying out vital projects in water and sanitation sectors

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Water Resources Kamal al-Sheikha discussed on Monday with Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Damascus Marianne Gasser means to expand cooperation and activate work mechanisms to carryout vital projects in water and sanitation sectors.

The minister highlighted the role of ICRC and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) in delivering aid to citizens in most of the Syrian areas, hailing the joint efforts between the ministry and the donor sides to offer clean drinking water to citizens.

Al-Sheikha stressed the important role of Higher Relief Committee in organizing and coordinating work mechanisms and ensuring that services are delivered to citizens as soon as possible.

For her part, Gasser hailed the constructive cooperation between ICRC and Water Resources ministry, stressing the ICRC keenness on increasing activities and expanding executed programs in all sectors.

She clarified that ICRC is looking forward to increase activities in supporting infrastructure and delivering aid for all citizens in Syria, affirming that committee had increased the water sector budget in 2015.
