UNCHR launches new registration system for refugees inside Syria

Damascus, SANA – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) launched on Wednesday a new registration system for refugees and asylum seekers inside Syria that works on taking vital records and issuing secure ID cards.

The new system will allow identifying the refugee or the asylum seeker through retinal scan that is registered in a special system of a
high security level.

In a statement to SANA after launching the new system, Deputy Head of the UNHCR mission in Syria Abdul Karim Ghoul said around 30,000 refugees and asylum seekers from different countries who are registered by the UNHCR mission will benefit from this system.

Al-Goul praised the role which the Syrian  government and people have played in terms of hosting hundreds of thousands of refugees,
particularly from Iraq and other Arab countries.
