Prime Minister reviews obstacles hindering e-government project

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi on Monday met with the officials in charge of the e-government projects, reviewing with them the challenges and obstacles that hindered the implementation of the project.

Premier al-Halaqi said that the e-government project will help improve the government’s performance by saving time, effort, and costs for paperwork, in addition to overcoming red tape, curbing corruption, and providing easier access to services and information.

He called for analyzing the current status of the project to find suitable solutions to implement it, stressing the need to build skills in the fields of IT and communications, focus on research in these fields, and give more attention to IT, communications, and programming in Syria.

For his part, Communications and Technology Minister Mohammad al-Jalali reviewed the progress made in the e-government project and the Ministry’s efforts to help carry it out.

Al-Jalali said that the goals required to carry out this project include implementing e-signatures, e-payment methods, finalizing digital national records, establishing networking and information exchange among ministries, and establishing an e-government portal to allow easy access to information.

The Communications and Technology Ministry published the e-government strategy in 2010, dividing the project into three stages with the aim of providing governmental services online by the end of 2020.
