Family of Sedqi al-Maqt reports he is suffering constant abuse by Israeli occupation police

Quneitra, SANA – The family of Syrian activist Sedqi al-Maqt reported that he is being exposed to abuse and threats at the hands of the Israeli occupation police personnel in charge of Gilboa prison in northern occupied Palestine in a bid to pressure him and break his morale.

Al-Maqt’s family members told SANA’s correspondent on Monday after they visited him in prison that he is being subjected to vindictive, brutal, and hostile treatment, and that the occupation authorities are preventing lawyers from visiting him and threatening him with solitary confinement if he speaks about this to the media.

They also noted that in each of the trial sessions for him, he is always escorted by 4 policemen who prevent him from raising his arms and try to prevent his supporters and family members from catching any glimpse of him amidst constant threats directed at him on the way from the prison to the court.

His relatives added that once he was transported to court when no session was scheduled just to make him endure the rough and long ride in the prisoner transportation vehicle.

On July 1st, the Israeli occupation authorities postponed the trial of al-Maqt for the fourth time until September 7, while a nominal trial session was held behind closed doors away from the media and al-Maqt’s family members.

Al-Maqt had spent 27 years in Israeli prisons and was released in August 2012, only for the Israeli occupation authorities to arrest him again on February 25th, 2015, without giving any justification after breaking into his family’s home, vandalizing its contents, and confiscating phones and computers in it.
