Over 100 religious, civil and clan figures sign Accord to maintain security in Sweida

Sweida, SANA – Over 100 religious, civil and senior clan figures from Sweida reached on Thursday an “Act of Accord” to preserve security and social stability in the southern province.

The signatories stressed they will prevent any party that might violate the rules of the Accord or attempt at “stirring tension and getting involved in irresponsible security incidents or undermining the position of the state or governmental institutions.”

The Accord considers shedding blood among the locals of Sweida province as a taboo, calling for referring all “previous violations and security incidents” to the judiciary and the authorities concerned.

The Accord also affirms that taking up arms against the state is totally “rejected” and calls for legal action against whoever commits abduction and seizure of property under any reason or pretext whatsoever.

The signatories stressed their keenness on the security of the province and called for work to ensure the return of all displaced people and guarantee their safety.
