Antiquities and museums director: Terrorists smuggling artifacts from Deir Ezzor

Damascus, SANA – Director General of the Antiquities and Museums Maamoun Abdul-Karim said the Directorate obtained multi-sourced data that terrorist organizations are using heavy machinery in excavating and smuggling artifacts from al-Kisra and al-Sinn, two prominent archeological sites in Deir Ezzor.

In statements to SANA made on Wednesday, Abdul-Karim added these operations are being carried out in cooperation with smuggling gangs from neighboring countries.

The Antiquities Directorate previously revealed that ISIS had already destroyed 90 percent of the Islamic shrines in the eastern and northeastern areas.
