Antiquities chief: Terrorist organizations conduct sabotage and robbery of sites in Quneitra

Damascus, SANA- Director General of Museums and Antiquities in Syria Ma’amoun Abdul- Kareem said that information by locals and inhabitants of the southern countryside of Quneitra province affirmed that works of tampering, sabotage and secrete excavations carried out by the armed terrorist organizations, thieves and ruins gangs at that area are still ongoing.

Abdul-Kareem told SANA Sunday that the sabotage, robbery and secret excavations acts targeted a number of archeological sites, including al-Tal al-Ahmar al-Gharbi and al- Sharqi, Tal al-Kom, Tal Okashah, Tal Abu Qbais as well as the ancient houses and archeological churches of the village of Kodnah.

The antiquities chief pointed out that some gangs use heavy machinery in their excavation works, causing big damage to some archeological sites.

However, the aforementioned area is rich with unique archeological sites and hills dating back to very important historical periods extending from the 3rd millennium B.C. and beyond.
