Health Minister: Syria to be declared as polio- free country soon

Lattakia, SANA- Health Minister Nizar Yazigi asserted that Heath Ministry is about to declare Syria as Polio-free country in the near future.

“Since January 21, 2104, no cases of infections have been registered, thanks to the vaccination campaigns which the Ministry carried out in cooperation with World Health Organization,” Yazigi said during opening the conference of the Primary Health Care “PHC” in Lattakia on Thursday .

He clarified that the Ministry depended the motto “Health for all” through following the “PHC” system which pays special attention to the families’ health with different age groups via health centers numbered 1996 centers before the crisis in Syria, pointing out that more than 600 of them were put out of service due to the acts of sabotage by the terrorist organizations.

For his part Lattakia Governor Ibrahim Khuder al-Salem pointed out to the vitality of the health sector in the province in spite of the challenges facing its workers.

He added that the work is underway to rehabilitate 11 health centers that were put out of services because of the terrorist groups ‘ attacks.

In Turn, Dr. Nedal Abu Rasheed , the representative of UN Children’s Fund “UNICEF” made it clear that “PHC” is the corner stone in all health services for being the first link between the citizen and any other health side, saying that this care must be upgraded to the required level to insure the best services.

On the sidelines of the conference, which will last until May 7, a number of certificates of appreciation were distributed to the distinguished workers in the “PHC” filed from different provinces.
