He added three centimeters to the world lead of 2.33m previously shared by the American Erik Kynard and the Chinese Zhang Guowei and Wang Yu.

Ghazal broke his previous best of 2.31m, achieved in the 2015 CISM Military World Games in South Korea.

In a statement to SANA Sport reporter, the Syrian champion said his achievement will only give him the push to do his best at Rio de Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympic Games due to be held in August.

He also said that he hopes to give more and make better results for Syria at international events.

Ghazal qualified for Rio Olympic Games after winning the gold medal with 229 cm at the Asian Grand Prix series 2015 in Thailand.
