Journey of Syrian mission to Rio Olympics ends

Rio de Janeiro, SANA – Journey of Syrian weightlifter Maan Asaad in the Rio Olympic Games 2016 ended with him ranked 7th within Group 2 and 15th in the overall rankings at the over 105 kg competitions that were held at dawn on Wednesday.

Asaad lifted 400 kg in total, below the qualifying level he registered at Asia Championship where he lifted a total weight of 418 kg.

Syrian athlete Majd Eddin Ghazal’s journey also came to an end in the Rio Olympics after he failed to jump over a height of 233 cm in his three attempts. He however succeeded to jump over heights of 220 cm, 225 cm and 229 cm.

The Syrian mission has thus finished its participation in the Olympics, which will conclude activities on August 21th.
