Czech ambassador: War on Syria aims to implement certain agendas

Prague, SANA – The Czech ambassador in Damascus, Eva Filipi, stressed that what has taken place in Syria over the past few years was not a “revolution”, but rather attempts by some countries to implement their agendas and goals which seem unachievable in this country.

Speaking at a discussion session on the current developments in the Middle East organized by the Czech Institute 2080, Filipi said that the war in Syria is a multi-proxy war in which regional and international powers have got involved to carry out their interests.

She noted that the Turkish and Qatari regimes wanted Muslim Brotherhood to be a key player and partner in Syria which has been rejected by the Syrian government, adding that this is the main reason why these regimes cooperated together against Syria.

Filipi pointed out that there is no hope in reaching a compromise with the so-called Syrian “opposition” since it is still divided and couldn’t come to an agreement for more than five years; on the other hand, the foreign opposition is backed by some countries whose main objective is to defend their own interests.

She warned against the acts of Qatar and Saudi Arabia which seek to influence Western countries through money in order to adopt stances that support their policies.
