1598 – William Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice is entered on the Stationers’ Register by a decree of Queen Elizabeth.

1624 – German Wilhelm Schickard from Heidelberg University discovers first calculating machine , named  the calculating clock.

1957 – Al-Habib  Bourguiba  becomes President of Tunis.

1970 – Sultan Qaboos Bin Said accedes to the throne of Oman.

1932 – Egyptian Poet Hafez Ibrahim passes away.
