Syria participates in workshop on CEDAW convention in Geneva

Geneva, SANA- The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) organized a workshop at the MP level on the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva, with the participation of Syria.

MP, Salam Sanqar affirmed that the Syrian Constitution has guaranteed women’s rights, stressing that the years of war in Syria have contributed to strengthening the power of women to take their role alongside men in rebuilding society.

Sanqar asked how can the CEDAW convention be enforced while women of the occupied Syrian Golan have been subjected to suppressive practices over years by the Israeli occupation authorities, in addition to arbitrarily arresting them and their children and holding them in detention them without trial.
Syria joined the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in 2002.
