Awareness activity on osteoporosis at Tishreen Park in Damascus

Damascus, SANA- An awareness activity was held at Tishreen Park in Damascus on Friday dedicated to raising awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis on the occasion of the World Osteoporosis Day (WOD).

The activity was organized by the Syrian National Osteoporosis Society in cooperation with the Syrian Doctors Syndicate, with the participation of medical, civil, youth activities and medical companies.

The event began with a walk in the park and ended with doing workout under the sunlight.

Speaking to SANA, Dr. Mahmoud Qawas, a radiologist said that osteoporosis is a widespread problem worldwide as women aged 50 years and men aged 60 years are susceptible to develop osteoporosis.

He added that taking early preventive measures protect the human body from osteoporosis which can be done by eating healthy food, including vegetables and fruit, and avoiding smoking and drinking too much coffee, soda, and alcohol.

The World Osteoporosis Day (WOD), marked on October 20 each year, is a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
