Iran calls on the OPCW to pay attention to Syria’s considerations and rights

The Hague, SANA- Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Dr. Alireza Kazemi, called on the organization to pay attention to Syria’s considerations and rights, expressing satisfaction with the Syrian government’s constructive cooperation with it.

“The OPCW is a specialized body whose agenda and scope of duties have been defined, and therefore the efforts of some Western countries to raise political issues outside the organization’s agenda will make it politicized and polarized,” Kazemi said at the 99th meeting of the organization’s executive council.

He stressed that “the United States, as the sole holder of chemical weapons, must destroy its arsenal as soon as possible.”

The 99th meeting of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons began its work yesterday at the organization’s headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands, and continues until tomorrow.

During the meeting, the latest international developments and policies regarding combating the use of chemical weapons will be discussed.
