People of Golan mark anniversary of landmark strike against Israeli occupation

Quneitra, SANA- People of the occupied Syrian Golan on Saturday commemorated the 33th anniversary of the open strike announced in 1982 against the Israeli occupation authorities and their decision to annex the Golan and impose Israeli laws and identity on its Syrian citizens.

Quneitra governorate organized a festival to mark the anniversary that drew large audience from the people of Golan.

Quneitra Governor Ahmad Shaikh Abdul-Kader stressed that Golan will always be an integral part of Syria, adding that the Golan citizens are confident in the inevitable end of occupation.

“Those who declared the strike wanted to get across a defiant message that they won’t relinquish their rights no matter what… and that they are determined to wrench every single inch of land from the Israeli occupation,” he added.

The anniversary this year comes against the backdrop of successive military wins that the Syrian army is scoring on the environs of Golanwhich the governor viewed as a precursor to the ultimate victory over the occupation.

Meanwhile, the Syrian people in the occupied Golan renewed their deep attachment to homeland and commitment to the Syrian identity, undaunted by repressive Israeli measures.

This came in a statement that people of Golan issued in commemoration of the open strike that the people of Golan declared 33 years ago.

The anniversary sums up values of steadfastness and struggle against the Israeli enemy and embodies deep attachment to homeland, added the statement.

The statement hailed the Syrian army’s military victories in the southern and western regions and on Golan front.

“Israel’s day of reckoning is drawing closer,” the statement affirmed, striking a positive note of unshakable confidence in an imminent victory.
