UN official: Syria’s procedures to secure IDPs needs met Int’l praise

Homs, SANA- Homs Governor, Talal Barazi, said during his meeting with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Chaloka Beyani and the accompanying delegation “We are looking forward to seeing a responsible UN role in the domain of securing the basic needs of those affected people by terrorist acts, particularly that the Syrian government is cooperative with all UN organizations.”

Barazi reviewed the situation of the displaced people in the province due to the terrorist atrocities and the efforts exerted by the government to provide the basic needs to them alongside with reaching national reconciliations in many areas in the province, clarifying that the government covers 80% of services to the displaced, as 20% of displaced families returned to neighborhoods less affected by terrorist attacks.

He pointed out that the government works in cooperation with a technical team in the relevant ministry to set an organizational chart to reconstruct the damaged neighborhoods, hailing the efforts exerted by UN offices in Homs to provide relief and humanitarian aid to citizens, pointing out the need for more support to fulfill all the humanitarian needs.

For his part, Beyani said that his visit to the province aims at studying and evaluating the living standards of the displaced and to know means of providing assistance to them, along with finding real solution for their problems as to alleviate their suffering.

“The international community is to get acquainted with the volume of the support needed to face up the harsh conditions of the displaced people and those who are hosting them as well as those in need for help,” he added.

The UN official clarified that the Syrian government has taken affective procedures to help the displaced, meeting international praise through providing shelter and the required care instead of opening camps for them.

He stressed that food, hygiene and other basic needs are to be secured to the displaced and those in need in the province, hailing the efforts and cooperation of the Governorate with the international organizations in the humanitarian sector.
