ITU conference in solidarity with Syria issues final statement

Damascus, SANA- The participants in the International Trade Union (ITU) conference in solidarity with Syria against terrorism announced in their final statement their sincere and true solidarity with the workers and people of Syria against the policies, practices, and interference of the forces of imperialism, condemning the support given by some of those forces for terrorist organizations.

The participants expressed their disapproval of the continuous supporting of these powers to terrorist groups despite the condemnation of the UN Security Council and the international community of such behavior, in addition to their condemnation of foreign interference in Syrian affairs, particularly the acts of the Turkish government and Israel.

The statement also asserted the Syrians’ right to fight terrorism and defend their country, calling for international cooperation and coordination to combat terrorism and dry up the sources of terrorism.

In addition, the statement announced forming a Global Trade Union Front to combat terrorism and extremism, in addition to affirming the necessity of finding suitable means to combat terrorism and its causes in economic and social fields, particularly poverty, unemployment, ignorance, and injustice.

The participants denounced the inhumane exploitation of refugees and displaced people issue by some states and organized crime networks that are involved in human trafficking, organ trade, and sexual exploitation of minors.

The statement called for forming a subsidiary institution dedicated to media work and exerting pressure to stop the wars and blockades, and the participants also condemned the policies and conflicts which aim to control the sources of energy, oil, gas, and waterways to undermine competitors’ economies.

They also hailed Syria’s stances and support to unions and to syndical rights and liberties.

At the conclusion of the conference, the participants directed a letter to President Bashar al-Assad, stressing that they will relay the truth of the terrorist war waged on Syria, and asserting that Syria’s victory in its fight against terrorism is a triumph for all of humanity.

Earlier on Monday, the conference resumed its activities with discussing means of enhancing unity of trade unions and workers nationally and globally in facing challenges.

The participants in the first session of the 2nd day called for establishing a World Union Front to face terrorism and wars, and to expand the frameworks of joining to this Front to include all the powers that confront the global US imperial projects.

They asserted the necessity of banishing those who belong to Takfiri organizations and offending the Arab armies, calling on the Arab and world union organizations to be at the forefront of the struggling powers for achieving freedom and facing all kinds of external interventions.

The conference, started activities on Sunday, will discuss also mechanisms of developing the international union solidarity, the Takfiri terrorism and the phenomena of recruiting children and trafficking in women and human organs.

More than 250 union figures and representatives of 100 Arab and international union organizations from 29 Arab and foreign countries are taking part in the conference.
