Health Ministry, UNICEF discuss cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Health Minister Nizar Yazigi and resident representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria Hanna Singer discussed on Monday cooperation between the two sides, how to enhance it, and how to overcome difficulties hindering it.

During the meeting, Yazigi asserted the ministry’s commitment to improving coordination with international health organizations, particularly UNICEF, and facilitating the entry of medical shipments and vaccines to Syria.

He also emphasized the importance of setting a timetable for national vaccination campaigns to guarantee that vaccines reach children in all areas across Syria.

For her part, Singer underlined the need to focus on development programs, lauding the efforts of workers in the healthcare sector and their commitment to providing medical services to all citizens, especially children, despite current circumstances.

The Syrian Health Ministry and the UNICEF signed a cooperation plan for 2015 with a budget of over USD 38 million. This plan aims to achieve equal access to medical services and nutrition, with emphasis on the more needy areas and groups, particularly children.
