Syrian state tobacco company makes SYP 15,6 billion in 6 months

Damascus, SANA – the General Organization of Tobacco has marketed about 3.705 tons of tobacco, worth SYP 15.6 billion, in the first half of 2014.

According to the company’s biannual report, the company sold 2.826 tons of various types of locally-made tobacco, with a value of SYP 10.949 billion, along with SYP 4.656 billion worth in imported products that were marketed and sold by it.

The company said it implemented only 41% of the amount planned for this period and made 53% of the planned revenues, attributing the issue to the acts of the terrorist groups that sabotaged a number of affiliated institutions in several provinces.

The report said its operating factories are only in Lattakia and partly in Hama, with all other factories being cut off of materials or sabotaged and cannot be repaired any time soon.
