Health Ministry, Medair sign memo of understanding to repair damaged healthcare clinics

Damascus, SANA- Health Ministry and Medair organization signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to repair damaged healthcare clinics and support the ministry’s efforts in providing nutritional services and building local capabilities.

Medair is an international non-governmental organization of humanitarian aid with a stated mission, “to relieve suffering in some of the world’s most remote and devastated places. It provides emergency relief and recovery services including Health and Nutrition; Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; and Shelter and Infrastructure.

The one-year MoU stipulates rehabilitating damaged healthcare clinics so as to accommodate large number of patients and establishing nutrition departments in the chosen clinics.

According to the MoU, Medair commits to providing audio and visual tools, office equipment and information technology needed in selected clinics as well as training and investigative studies in coordination with the ministry.

Health Minister Nizar Yazigi stressed the necessity of enhancing cooperation with international organizations working in the health sector in Syria, pointing out the need to put focus on the quality standards of health services in accordance with the priorities and needs identified by the ministry.

For her part, Medair resident representative in Syria Claire Tonberge expressed the organization’s readiness to provide the needed expertise to support the health ministry’s efforts in delivering health care services to all people in need, noting that the organization will rehabilitate its first healthcare center at a value of USD 150,000.
